LEGO CUUSOOO: Iron Knuckle Encounter

Sat Dec 29, 2012, 4:31 PM
Photobucket

Name of Image

Hi Everyone one, I am happy to announce that I have managed to publish my very first LEGO CUUSOO Project! For those of you who may not know what that means. It means that if I can get 10,000 people to support my set design, LEGO will actually consider producing it as a real set!
To support the idea just click the image above or follow this [link]
Just the idea of having an official Link Minifigure would be enough to spur all sorts of awesome Zelda Themed LEGO creations.

Unfortunately even if everyone on my watch list here on DeviantArt supported the project I still would be far from 10,000 so that's where I need your help.

If you Love Zelda and LEGO, I would really appreciate it if you would share this with all of your friends. Tweet it, post it on Facebook, Tumblr or even make a journal on Deviant Art about it. Anything will help, and this isn't just for me, it's for everyone that wants to see these two awesome forces combine! Let's do it!

IlluXcon V/ Senior Year

So IlluXcon was awesome, as usual. If this journal popped up in your feed then you should probably go next year because if you like my work you will love IlluXcon, that's where everyone I look up to goes. Anyway it was pretty exciting, I had my first artists table experience.
Photobucket
Awesome artists like Justin Gerard, Matthew Stewart, Steve Prescott, and Donato Giancola are just a few of the many fantastic artists that stopped by my table to admire/ critique my work. Needless to say I can't wait to apply the advice I was given. I've got some big plans for future works so stay tuned.

I'm almost halfway done with my Senior year at Columbus College of Art & Design, and it's been going pretty well. I've been trying to solidify my personal branding and start honing in on my personal style, and overall just increase the quality of my work. A sad lack of time has made that somewhat difficult. In other news I got engaged. That's pretty cool. Early June next year my bachelor days will be over.

My cousin Qavah, whom many of you may remember from a past journal is still struggling to recover from her bone marrow transplant. I don't know exactly how long it's been since she first went through the surgery but it seems like forever and hopefully she will manage to pull through soon. You thoughts and prayers are always appreciated.

On a lighter note, boy am I ready for The Hobbit. I know some people are skeptical but I've learned not to be picky when it comes to movies. Along with that comes The Lego sets, which I am pretty excited about. I'm only two sets short of collecting the entire Lord of The Rings range, and needless to see The Hobbit range will be mine shortly thereafter. Speaking of Lego I've just started on another Lego themed project, hmm what could it be?

Oh yeah and I finally got rid of that silly hyphen in my name. A special shout out to :icongnarledcontradiction: for the 1 month premium membership which then spurred me to buy 2 more years haha.

Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving/ Potato picking/ whatever happens where you live at this time.

I'm planning to do two more Lego style posters, and would love to hear from you all.
What do you think would make an awesome Lego series?

Try to keep in mind that Lego likes to keep their products kid-friendly. So please no R-rated suggestions.
Let me know in a comment below, and thanks to everyone who has favorited my Lego Loz painting!

It seems as though my painting. [link] Has been circulating around tumblr and a lot of the viewers have been stopping by my gallery to fav it, share their concerns, and wish my cousin the best in recovery. I really appreciate the kind words from all of you and I am happy to say she has completed the bone marrow transplant and is on her way to a full recovery.

If anyone would like to hear more about how she's doing during the healing process you can read about it on my aunts blog

[link]

There is also a link to a special page where you can wish her the best yourself if you would like. Even though I don't know many of you, and neither does she it's always nice to hear that people care about you and are willing to offer their prayers.

Thank you all so much for your support of me and my cousin.

So I've been pretty darn busy lately. I apologize in advance for my poor journal writing skills but I feel obligated to update this thing every century or two. So here's a disclaimer, this could get a bit boring. XD BUT for those of you who are interested here's what I've been up to and what I'll be doing as far as I know for the summer.

Lots of exciting things have been happening recently. I had 5 of my pieces hanging up in the Rivet Gallery in Columbus, and my "The Black Dragon" piece made it into the Society of Illustrators Student Scholarship show. Unfortunately I don't have the funds to make it out to New York to actually see the gallery. It would have been cool to meet some of the fellow deviants that got in. Oh well, can't go to everything I suppose.

I've been working a ton lately and boy has the year flown by because of it. 3 work study jobs, a full time load of classes, and several big freelancing jobs.

Which brings me to my biggest announcement. I've some how managed to land a job as a concept artist for Emerald City Games. There are so many awesome artists on the team, many of them fellow deviants, and I'm really excited to see our current project through to the finish. Rest assured I will have plenty of work to upload when all is said and done.

Also the movie Stellar is still on the trail to production, and I'll being doing more work for that during the summer.

Speaking of summer...

I've been getting a fair amount of notes regarding potential commissions. Due to the previously stated workload I can't really do any at this time, but come summer I'll be ready and willing to take in some commissions. That is assuming I don't have a fulltime job somewhere. Which would be awesome, but we'll just have to wait and see. If you are really serious about having me do work for you you can go ahead and e-mail me or send me a note and I'll put your name on my waiting list and notify you as soon as I am available for hire.

Stay Cool,

-Wes

I've been working on a project for the past several weeks and have not been able to upload anything yet, but now Stellar has been made public.

Stellar is a feature length live action film about a high school superhero. I am the one and only concept artist working on it as well as promotional artist. It is still very much in the early stages of development but you can expect to see some more Stellar artwork as I get the ok to release it. For more information visit the official Stellar Facebook fan page.

Thanks so much to everyone involved in giving me my first daily deviation. It was really unexpected, and I was blown away by the amount of feedback I got from the lone samurai as well as my other pieces. Thank you especially to everyone that left/is leaving awesome encouraging comments It feels great to be appreciated this much.

Ok so I've got about two weeks of school left, which means it's time to start thinking about what personal projects I want to work on over the summer. I've been doing some Zelda related sketches recently but this time I really want to do a full blown illustration. I've actually surprisingly never done an entire Zelda fanart so this should be interesting. I've recently taken a liking to watercolor as you can see in my "Encounter" piece. It's a nice break from the usual mechanical look of my digital stuff, and I'm feeling a Zelda watercolor would be great fun.

So here's where you come in. I need ideas. Yes I could definitley come up with my own idea (it would probably include fierce deity) but as a thank you to everyone who has been favoriting my horribly outdated zelda work XD, I would like to hear the opinions and requests of everyone that has been watching me for a long time or just recently started. So that's it, the field is wide open to anything Zelda. I imagine I will probably start on this mid to late may so any comments I get up till then will be taken into consideration when I design the final composition.

Also I may be opening commissions some time in May as well although slots will be limited so if you've been wanting to commission me the opportunity is coming but you'll have to be quick.

First of all, thank you so much to everyone who came to me for commissions this Christmas season, I really appreciate it.

As you can see I am not accepting commissions at this time. If you are interested in commissioning me in the future I will change the journal title when I am open again.

However since I will be in school I will only take one commission at a time so you'll have to act quick each time I open.

Unfortunately the amount of people who came to me was a bit overwhelming to the point where I didn't have much time to work on my portfolio. Since I am still in school and need to work on personal projects to further my career opportunities I am going to have to adjust my prices in an attempt to free up some time, and also make my expenses a bit easier to pay off.

Here are my new prices.

NOTE: I will NOT do anything Higher than PG rated.

Character Commissions:

* Waist up lines___________________________$25

* Full body lines__________________________$55
+ Additional characters/pets______________+$20

* Full body colored_______________________$100
+ Additional characters/pets______________+$50

* Full body w/ background colored_________$200
+ Additional characters/pets______________+$50

Gifts:

Realistic Portraits_______________________$135

The price of anything not listed will vary depending on the subject matter.

Metroid Prime Trilogy

Fri May 21, 2010, 11:48 PM
Photobucket

I just purchased the Metroid Prime Trilogy for Wii and I am quite happy with my purchase. I played the original sidescrolling game a little bit but that's as far into the series I ever got. I just finished the first one tonight awesome back to back boss battles :D

I actually started looking into the metroid games for research in that genre since I am involved in a project with similar scifi aspects. So if any of you have been wondering where I have been, I've been busy working on that. I've also been doing some more serious freelance work. So unfortunately that's alot of work that I can't upload. I'm going to try to at least gather up some of my sketches I've been doing so this dusty account will get some activity. Hope you guys are enjoying your summer vacation as much as I am!

Busy as always

Well it's time to update on what I've been up to. First off school is obvious, if you guys are interested in what exactly I've been doing you can look at some of my schoolwork here.[link] not much is on there but I'll be adding more as I finish more. Soon I will be doing my first ever traditional oil painted self portrait, should be interesting.

I just finished some promo art for the band Beautiful Warfare who just released a new song and have 4 more on the way. Check em out. [link]

Let's see here I'm still not taking commissions altho I would love to, that probably won't happen until summer. :/ still workin on the comic with Ryan Nichols, and I have an interview with Hatch Tarr scheduled to be recorded on the 19th. I'm doing a promo piece for that depicting a certain Norse Hero (who could it be???) and will continue to do some personal sketches in between classes and such.

As far as gaming goes I've been keeping my eye on the updates for Halo Reach and for a fairly passive gamer especially when it comes to shooters I'm getting a little excited about it.

anyway that ends my quickie update.

Scion

Wed Feb 10, 2010, 8:13 PM
Photobucket

I recently remembered an old comic series I used to borrow from the library on a regular basis, and since I've developed a minor comic collecting kick I decided I would search out and buy the paperbacks.

Has anyone read the Scion Series by Ron Marz, lines by Jim Cheung (mostly) and published by crossgen comics?

I absolutely loved them as a kid. They influenced me in many ways artistically. I've managed to purchase volumes 1,2,3,4,and 6 (the last 2 actually just came out a few years ago.) but alas the 5th evades me, if anyone knows where I could find it let me know! I'm also still on the lookout for Battle Chasers issues 2,6,7,and 8.

I took some pics of some of my work so far this semester (some sculptures even!) but my magic gate broke on me so once i go out and get a new one I'll be able to upload those. Otherwise I'm still pickin away at my comic work, and wishing I had more time to work on other things. Poor zelda has remained uncolored for several months now. :/

Sonic 4!

Sat Feb 6, 2010, 11:14 AM
Photobucket

I need to update my journal more often... anyway.

THEY FINALLY DID IT RIGHT! this is prolly a little late as far as newsflashes go, but if you are a sonic fan then you're probably as excited as I am to hear about sonic 4 (which is coming out for basically everything I believe since sega sold themselves to everyone.)

Anyway I'm not a massive fan of sonic but I did play the first 3 when I was a youngin and after that the new sonic games kinda sucked imo. I'm looking forward to downloading it whenever they release it this year.

check out the promo vid!

Well I've actually been back in school for about a week now, but it's just now hit full swing with a full load of homework. Which is exciting. If you are a college aged serious artist and you are not going to an art school then you're missing out.

I'm gonna try to upload some more of my work from last semester as well as keep up to date on stuff I'm doing this semester (which should be easy cus I'm doing more digital now)

Also DJ Shwann's artbook is out! Head over to his page for details.
[link]

also I don't think I mentioned my hardware updates in my past journals.

I recently switched over to Mac *gasp* Main reasoning being that I needed something lightweight and the idea of not downloading/ paying for a bunch of firewall crap really helped my decision. Also all my classes that require computer work use macs and it's just alot less confusing if I have one of my own.

I got the new macbook pro 13". Then I got an LG  Flatron 20" to hook it up to on my desk at home. I'm enjoying it quite a bit and am now working on saving my money since this stuff took out a good chunk.

I've been seeing alot of Patch-together vinyl designs around dA and the idea intrigues me, I may have to whip up a design for myself just for fun.
