This was a fun experiment I did for portrait drawing class. I printed out the rough lines and flats on arches cold press watercolor paper and then did all the rendering on top with colored pencil. Pretty happy with the results.

A stunning success. The light color of the lines in some places if what really makes it for me; it gives the illusion of papercraft.

This is a beautiful piece, Wes, and the technique is very interesting! I'd love to give it a try sometime. :)

Would you mind telling me the make/model of your printer? I work in a small copier/print shop and we have several nicer printers, I'm wondering if any of them would be better than the others for this task.

Love the effect, this technique worked really well! In the past I have coaxed my own printer to print out linework ready for watercolouring, but I'd never thought of printing out flats and using coloured pencils before.
I love the graphic quality this has, too, it's gorgeous! =)
