I started this piece with a goal in mind of it being the best I could do at the time in everything, altho there a few secret things I'm not happy with lol. The background was the biggest issue. As anyone can see usually I just have a plain white BG and a simple shadow, but I felt the need to broaden my horizons, most likley permanently as far as my individual work goes. If you commission me and want a BG that's like an additional 20 bucks cus they take forever O.o

Next up will most likely be a traditional kicker to show that I can survive without a computer... altho since the only color medium I've used is colored pencil it may be black and white... or just in colored pencil, but most likely black and white since I really prefer digital coloring over all other types.

He is the updated version of my original Sephyrus character see here.[link] So this is also a good reference of how I've improved over the past 2 years :)

Any questions/comments/constructive criticisms/concerns are appreciated.

Dude!!! freakin' sweet!!! I know what you mean...backgrounds are so time consuming...but they add SO much to a piece yeah?

heh thanks, and yeh I'll prolyl do a few more BG peices but then go back to a simple BG or somthing different cus I really prefer "Character art" since thats what I'm best at. It'll be nice to have the BG exp tho.

Personally, I love you work, but IMO if you would like your character to be like you, I would add little bits of your personality into him, not make him look like you. To me, the awesome Sephyrus that I've followed for a long time has become just you in a suit of armor. The hair and the nose are two big factors in making a character look unique.

As for the rest of the piece, once again you prove yourself exceptionally gifted. I can only dream of armor styles like that, I admire the changes in the Windblade, and everything seems proportional in a very difficult, stylistic pose. As far as your BG goes, I say good job, but I know you'll continue to get better, so don't worry about minor details ;)

Overall, no piece of yours has been a dud, so you have my support. I was wondering when you'd do another Sephy...

yeah the idea of making him look like me is not just a battle in others minds, but in mine too. The reason I did is because well for one Sephyrus came to being when I was about 10 and liked to play with wooden swords in the woods and built castle towers out of branches. He is how I imagine myself if I were in a fantasy medieval world. So naturally I've always made him mostly like me besides his attire and beefed up frame XD.

The reason I still hold to this concept is because I could very easily come up with my own hairstyle, nose-shape and make him look all cool and like an awesome OC just like everyone else. My thought is, why can't he just be normal? OC's and main characters for stories and games always have to be EXTRA cool with "cool" hair etc. In pretty much everything nowadays I try to stray from the pattern. So as much as I understand you suggestion, and sometimes really want to make him someone else myself, Sephyrus (who's original name was Wes o.O) will always be me. I garuntee however that there will be more OC's from me that will fit closer to the mold others have formed for OC's. Character design is my favorite thing to do so keep watchin, and heck you can even give suggestions for ideas. My brain is limited to a certain amount of ideas at a time so input from others is totally cool.
